Phuket Travel Guide

Phuket is a beautiful island located off the coast of Thailand. Besides being a province of Thailand, it is a major tourist attraction throughout the year. There are many beaches all around the island (Patong, Karon, Kata, Laguna and so on). Hence, when choosing your hotel or resort, you could first check out the beaches in close proximity. There are some that cater to leisure swimmers, while others provide for the advance divers.

Phang Nga Bay

You could also choose from Phuket’s various day excursions, from sea canoeing to visiting coral island. Sea canoeing involves admiring the unique geology of the cave interiors in Phang Nga Bay while visiting Coral island mostly involves taking a snorkel, dive or parasailing. The surrounding islands and provinces around Phuket in the Andaman Sea are very interesting and different. Therefore, for a more complete experience, why not participate in an eye-opening day tour?

Aside from water-based activities, you could spend your day visiting the splendid forested area of Khao Phra Thaeo National Park or Khao Rang on the southern part of the island with a great view over Phuket town and surrounding islands.

A first-timer might not know this but Phuket is rapidly becoming an entertainment hub. The island charm infused with the city nightlife is a great combination. In and around Patong beach, there are well over a 100 beer bars where night-goers can enjoy and party amidst the lights and sounds. There are also clubs like the Banana or the Safari that offer both restaurant dining and late night partying. However, while the Banana has an entrance fee and rather expensive drinks, the Safari is the exact opposite. Entering does not cost you and drinks are inexpensive.

You will be able to find with ease a fantastic array of local Thai cuisine and international cuisines around the island. A proper Thai meal should consist of a soup, a curry dish with condiments, a dip with accompanying fish and vegetables. It’ll be good to know that Thai cuisine is based on a harmony of tastes and textures. Rest assured your stomach is well-taken care of after a day’s touring and activities.

Aside from the sun, sea and nature, Phuket does have its share of historical monuments worth visiting. Most are of Sino-Portuguese descent. Examples include Wat Chalong, Old Phuket and Wat Phra Tong.

When would be a good time to visit?

The Pearl of the Andaman, as Phuket is known, is a fantastic collection of city life amidst the natural beauty of the coast. Tourists love the unspoilt beaches and vivid nightlife. Phuket is an excellent destination, especially from the months of November to January. This is when the climate is relatively dry and temperatures are at a comfortable 25 degrees Celsius approximately.
