Tips for Hotel Stays

A dodgy hotel experience is enough to leave a bad taste in the mouth of any traveler. Everyone has that one story of the TERRIBLE hotel they stayed in that wrecked their trip – albeit providing a great dinner party story!

I’ve prepared these 7 Tips for Hotel Stays to help you avoid another bad experience and hopefully pick an awesome hotel for your next holiday!

1. Work out your budget and stick to it. There are good hotels in every price bracket so don’t stretch your budget unnecessarily, work out how much you want to spend and stick with it. The money you save can be spent on fun souvenirs, extra tours or even a few extra nights away!

2. Word of mouth reviews are always the best. Speaking person-to-person with someone who has stayed at that hotel is always the ideal way to figure out if its a good place to stay. They’ll be able to tell you if the rooms were nice, if it was close to all the tourist destinations, if the price was appropriate etc.

3. If in doubt turn to Google. If you don’t happen to know someone who has traveled where you’re heading then turn to Google for answers. Find a reputable website such as TripAdvisor.com where you’ll find information, star ratings and even customer reviews.

4. Find out where the main tourist spots are before booking. You’ll want to be sure that where you’re staying is close to all the tourist hot spots. There’s nothing worse than getting stuck at a hotel in the middle of nowhere and having to organize transport every time you want to go somewhere.

5. Book with plenty of time to spare. You’ll often find that you can get great discounts by booking ahead of time both with flights and accommodation.

6. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. If you have questions for the hotel regarding their facilities, the costs, the surrounding area don’t be afraid to send them an email or give them a call. Your accommodation is an important part of your trip and will take up a huge part of your budget so make it count!

7. Ask ahead if traveling with pets. There are hotels around the world that allow pets but there’s definitely more that don’t allow pets than those that do. If it doesn’t clearly say on their website that “pets are allowed” then the chances are they’re not. Always, always, always check ahead of time.

The hotel might be only where you sleep at the end of each day but if you wind up in terrible accommodation you’re going to notice. Use these 7 tips for hotel stays will help to ensure your next trip is a great one!
