Tips for Travel with Kids
Traveling with kids doesn’t have to be a nightmare for everyone involved, you just have to be prepared and it’ll be an awesome experience for the whole family. One of my favourite memories growing up was the family trips I shared with my parents and siblings and I know its shaped my love of travel to this very day.
Traveling with your children is one of the best things you could do for them, exploring new locations, opening their eyes to new experiences and just having an absolute ball of a time. They will never forget the memories you created so why not take the time and explore the world with them.
I’ve put together a list of tips on travel with kids so that the whole family can enjoy traveling the world together…
1.Choose a child-friendly destination. Do your research ahead of time to ensure that where you’re heading for your holiday is suitable for children of all ages. There’s no point traveling somewhere that won’t offer any fun activities for kids – it will wreck their trip, and yours!
2.Make sure each of your children has a current passport. Keep in mind the time it takes to apply for and receive a passport if this is your child’s first trip. Also, children’s’ passports often have shorter expiry periods than adults because of their rate of growth and thus change of appearance so be aware of the expiry date so you don’t get caught out.
3.Involve your children in the planning of the holiday. Make sure you include your children in the planning of your big adventure so that they feel a part of it and can get just as excited as you are.
4.Take diaries for each of your children. While this may seem like a “boring” task at first they’ll love looking back over the memories of what they did each day on their big holiday. My parents often made me write a few paragraphs at the end of each day (or every second day) and for years I loved looking back over the stories and remembering the fun adventures.
5.Prepare for the plane. The plane ride can be a troubling experience if you’re not prepared. Everyone has sat next to the crying baby, toddler or child that just won’t settle for hours on end – its not fun for anyone involved. Make sure you time their naps around the flight so that they are tired when you board the plane. While they may be cranky at the airport they’ll get buckled into their seat and promptly fall asleep for the whole flight. Pack lots of snacks, drinks and things to keep them entertained.
Traveling with kids doesn’t have to be stressful experience. These tips on travel with children can save you time, stress and allow you to have a great time with the whole family on your next adventure.
